MANSEHRA: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has threatened to stage a protest against the delay in the acquisition of land for a graveyard for which former prime minister Nawaz Sharif had transferred an amount of Rs200 million to the district administration three years ago.

“No space has been left for burial at existing graveyards in the city. Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif had transferred an amount of Rs200 million but the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government wants to divert this money anywhere else which we would never allow,” Mian Ibrar Hussain, a local PML-N leader and former tehsil councillor, told a press conference here on Thursday.

A group of PML-N workers led by Hussain announced to hold protest demonstrations if the land is not acquired for the graveyards.

He said that his party had taken up the core issue faced by people in four urban union councils of Mansehra with Nawaz Sharif and he released the grant for acquisition of land for the graveyards but PTI government was not sincere to spend that money on that purpose. “Would you believe people have no other option but to bury their loved ones in already filled graveyards,” he added. He said that party’s lawmakers from Mansehra district had already met deputy commissioner and tehsil municipal officer seeking an early acquisition of land for graveyards but to no avail.
