Protests against sacrilege of Quran today

LAHORE: On the call of Pakistan Ulema Council, peaceful protests will be staged today (Friday) all over country against the incident of desecration of Holy Quran in Norway.

In a joint statement, Pakistan Ulema Council leader Hafiz Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi and representatives of different religious organisations stated that peaceful protests would be staged against the condemnable incident of desecration of Holy Quran in Norway.

To mark the day, religious scholars will eulogise dignity of Holy Quran in Friday sermons. It is worth-mentioning that World Peace Council has been constituted to promote interfaith harmony across the world and this council has been comprised of representatives of different schools of thought.

In the joint statement, the scholars underlined that Muslims across the world own great respect and honour for the Holy Quran. Feelings of more than 1.5 billion Muslims across the globe have been hurt because of the condemnable incident in Norway.

The joint statement lauded efforts on part of Norwegian government for arresting the culprit and resolve to ensure legislation for sanctity of heavenly religions and holy places. The scholars demanded European Union and UNO ensure legislation to uphold sanctity of heavenly religions and respective holy places.

They also demanded the PTI government take up blasphemy issue with OIC for effective legislation to avert such incidents in future. They stated that Islam is a religion of peace and harmony.
