Suspected robber killed, another wounded in police encounter

A man alleged to have snatched a car was gunned down by police on Thursday while his suspected accomplice was injured during a shootout in Shah Latif area. A policeman was also wounded.

According to police, an encounter ensued on the National Highway when cops intercepted a car, which was snatched from Bahadurabad area.

Shah Latif police had been informed about the snatching of that car by Ferozabad police, they added. As the suspects were intercepted by police, they shot at cops in a bid to escape, police said.

Police added that one suspect was killed and the other was injured when police fired in retaliation. A policeman, named Nazakat, was also injured in the shootout, police said.

The body of the killed suspect along with the injured man was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for medico-legal formalities and treatment. The wounded policeman was also admitted to the same hospital.

The deceased was identified as Zaheer while the injured as Amjad.A first information report has been registered and further investigations are under way.
