ISLAMABAD: Since lifting of the moratorium on death penalty, some 25 condemned prisoners in Adiala Jail Rawalpindi have so far been executed of whom 19 had already served at least 15-year imprisonment while only two of the hanged prisoners were charged under anti-terrorism act. According to the list of hanged prisoners of Adiala Jail, two had spent more than twenty-five years in jail, two remained in judicial custody for more than twenty-four and half years and two remained imprisoned for more than twenty-two years. Details reveal that only two of the 25 prisoners who have been hanged were tried under the anti-terrorism act. They include Muhammad Amin and Majid Ali Shah. Amin who hailed from Peshawar was brought to the jail on 23-02-1998 while he was sentenced to death on 31-01-2000 and was executed on 31-03-2015. Majid Ali Shah hailed from Rawalpindi, was jailed on 15-01-2000 and was sentenced to death on 28-05-2001 but was hanged on 15-04-2015. The list further reveals that one Muhammad Mushtaq was brought to jail on 08-07-1989 while he was sentenced to death on 04-11-1991 and was executed on the morning of 09-04-2015. Muhammad Rafique of Chakwal spent 25 years in jail before his execution on 16-06-2015. He was brought to the jail on 13-06-1990 and was sentenced to death on 27-05-1991. Javed Sultan who was hanged on 16-06-2015 was brought to the prison on 23-06-1990 and was sentenced to death on 27-05-1991. Ikram Hussain spent 24 years in jail before being executed on 16-06-2015. He was brought to jail on 06-09-1990. Rab Nawaz and Talib Hussain of Chakwal spent 22 years each in the prison before they were executed on 18-03-2015. Likewise, Muhammad Javaid spent 17 years 8 months and 9 days in jail before being hanged on 17-03-2015. Malik Nadeem Zaman was executed on 17-03-2015 after spending 16 years and 8 months in jail. Shaukat Ali was hanged on 18-03-2015 after spending 16 years in jail. Muhammad Shabbir of Attock was hanged on 18-03-2015 after spending 8 years 9 months and 18 days in the prison. Ghulam Muhammad and Asghar Ali spent 15 years 5 months and 12 days each in jail before being executed on 19-03-2015. Gulistan Khan was also hanged on 19-03-2015 after spending 11 years in jail. Qaiser Hussain spent 3 in jail before he was executed on 15-04-2015. Muhammad Raees spent 16 years and 8 months in jail before his execution on 21-04-2015. Khan Bahadur Khan was hanged on 27-05-2015 after spending 17 years and 8 months in Adiala Jail. Abdul Rehman spent 10 years 10 months and 23 days in the prison before he was executed on 02-06-2015. Liaquat Ali was hanged on 16-06-2015 after spending 18 years in jail. Muhammad Aslam spent nearly 15 years as prisoner before being executed on 29-07-2015. Muhammad Arshad remained in jail for 12 years before being executed on 30-07-2015. Jehandad Khan was also hanged on 30-07-2015 after spending 11 years 8 months and 18 days in jail. Muhammad Ashraf spent 15 years 3 months and 6 days in jail before his execution on the 31st July 2015. Zafar Iqbal was also hanged on 31-07-2015 at 4:30 am after spending 15 years 2 months and 14 days in the lock-up.
