Mahtab for coordinated efforts to eradicate polio
PESHAWAR: Governor Sardar Mahtab Ahmad Khan has stressed the need for coordinated efforts to eradicate polio from the Federally Administered Tribal Areas and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He was chairing a meeting on the national health services regulations and coordination with special focus on polio eradication at the Governor’s House on Wednesday.

PESHAWAR: Governor Sardar Mahtab Ahmad Khan has stressed the need for coordinated efforts to eradicate polio from the Federally Administered Tribal Areas and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
He was chairing a meeting on the national health services regulations and coordination with special focus on polio eradication at the Governor’s House on Wednesday. The participants discussed the pace of progress and targets of the polio vaccination campaigns. Sardar Mahtab said that every effort would be made to make Pakistan a polio-free country. “Polio is a national problem and the government is committed to protect children from falling victim to the crippling disease,” he added.
The meeting was informed that the polio cases reported in the current year so far had reduced to eight as compared to 179 in 2014. The door-to-door vaccination has been launched in 80 percent of South Waziristan Agency and more coordinated campaigns were being conducted in Bara in Khyber Agency.
Meanwhile, Minister of State for National Health Services Regulations and Coordination Saira Afzal Tarar said all the available resources are being utilised to ensure the eradication of polio by the year 2016. The minister lauded the efforts of the provincial government for the eradication of polio virus from the province saying that “Sehat Ka Insaf” and Sehat Ka Ittehad” programme initiated by the KP government have yielded encouraging and impressive results.She assured all-out support of the federal government to the provincial government in its efforts to eradicate polio from the province.
