Officer of sensitive organisation shot dead in capital
ISLAMABAD: An officer of a sensitive organisation was shot dead near Police Apartments at G/9-1, falling in the jurisdiction of Karachi Company Police Station, late Thursday night.
Two bike-riding armed men opened fire when theofficer was sitting with an air hostess of a private airline in a park. The officer was shot in the head and died on the spot.
Police have filed an FIR claiming that it was an incident of mugging and the gunmen reacted when the officer hit back during the violence.
Flt Lt Mohammad Zohaib lodged a complaint with the Karachi Company Police Station saying that the deceased Laraib Hassan was his brother. He came to Islamabad to perform a duty assigned by his department. He was with a lady at about 10:10pm when unknown assailants shot him dead.
Alina, the eyewitness, said she is an executive in a private airline. She said Laraib was her family friend. She said Laraib picked her on his car and they came to G-10. She said she is living in a women hostel at G-9/1. “We were sitting on a bench on a walking track in G-10 when two young men came to us and stood at some distance. One of them was carrying a pistol. They asked us to hand them over whatever we have. Suddenly, Laraib advanced to them and punched face of one of them, while the other went away from us and opened fire,” she said.
Police cordoned off the area after the incident, but the attackers escaped. The body was shifted to PIMS for autopsy and later handed over to his heirs. The DIG (Operations) has constituted two investigation teams to cover different aspects of the killing. The investigation teams would submit their report with a week.
