NAB fails to arrest Akram Durrani
The Islamabad High Court (IHC) Thursday closed the bail plea of JUI-F leader and Rahber Committee convener Akram Durrani
ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) Thursday closed the bail plea of JUI-F leader and Rahber Committee convener Akram Durrani, as the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) failed to furnish reasons for his arrest.
A division bench, comprising Chief Justice Athar Minallah and Justice Miangul Hassan, took up Durrani’s petition seeking pre-arrest bail. The NAB could not find any reason to arrest him in the three corruption cases.
Justice Athar Minallah remarked that there was need to make the NAB prosecution strong. He said in foreign countries no one could be arrested in this manner. “The MQM founder is still free despite hard allegations against him,” he said.
Justice Athar remarked that the NAB should file a reference against Durrani if having evidences. To this, the NAB prosecutor told the court that they had not issued arrest warrants for Durrani and currently there was no need for that.
He further said no one could be arrested without evidences and in the instant case the NAB had issued arrest warrants for Durrani’s front man Rehmatullah. Later the court closed the bail application of Akram Durrani and six others and granted interim bail to Rehmatullah till December 8.
Talking to the media outside the court, Durrani said the JUI-F would start following ‘Plan C’ from Friday (today) with countrywide protest demonstrations. He said the nation will soon hear good news. “The PTI would finish in the foreign funding case. Imran Khan should resign on moral grounds,” he added. Durrani said businessmen, doctors, teachers almost everyone was protest the government policies. Talking about former prime minister Mian Nawaz Sharif, he said politicians were making fun of his illness and misleading the nation. He would be back after his medical treatment, Durrani added.
