ANP's Asfandyar sees one-sided accountability for opposition
CHARSADDA: Awami National Party (ANP) has said that opposition in Pakistan is being targeted in the name of accountability.
“The recent developments show that opposition leaders have been put behind bars without solid evidence.
The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) chairman’s remarks have made it clear that political victimisation was underway in Pakistan,” he said in a statement.
He said that NAB could not prove corruption charges against the political leaders who had been arrested over allegations of corruption.
The politically-motivated accountability would push the country towards instability for which Imran Khan and NAB chairman would be held accountable.
The Awami National Party chief rejected the NAB chairman’s logic about the Bus Rapid Transit project and termed it a joke with the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He said that NAB had no courage to initiate cases against the ministers in the Imran Khan government. He said that some ministers had admitted that the project was initiated in haste without any proper planning.
The Awami National Party chief said that it was NAB responsibility to present proofs in Supreme Court to expose corruption.
He asked the NAB chairman to make the corruption in BRT public.
Our correspondent adds from Bannu: Former senator and Awami National Party leader Baz Muhammad Khan said on Thursday the NAB was reluctant to take action against the government functionaries and ministers involved in the corruption.
He was speaking at a meeting held to chalk out the future course of action for the upcoming visit of Awami National Party provincial president Aimal Wali Khan to Bannu on December 8.
Regarding the mines issue in erstwhile Fata, Baz Muhammad said that the government had nothing to do with the assets and properties of the tribal people.
