LAHORE: Opposition leader in the Punjab Assembly Hamza Shahbaz Thursday said the country was experiencing the worst inflation and unemployment, as the prices of medicines, fruits and vegetables went up by six times during the last 14 months of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government.

Talking to the media outside the Punjab Assembly before the session, he expressed concerns over miseries being faced by the brick-kiln workers, daily wagers, middle class and trader community due to economic situation of the country.

He said if the incumbent government managed to perform only 25 per cent compared with the PML-N, he would appreciate it. However, he said Pakistanis fear that if the government continued its current policies, they would be further trapped in political cauldron.

He said the PTI government promises had turned into nightmares and people were finding it hard to pay even their utility bills. He said everything had its logical end, but the government had failed to control price hike. He said the government functionaries even did not know the actual prices of vegetables, especially tomato.

He said the opposition offered the charter of economy from day one, but the PTI government did not pay heed to it. He said the Rehbar Committee would find a solution to economic crisis in the country.

He said the PTI government had been raising objection over the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects, but now it was placing plaques on the projects started by Nawaz Sharif. He said their government had controlled dengue, but the situation was now completely changed.

Hamza said that the palace of Bani Gala was mocking the poor people, adding that the titanic of lies was about to sink. He said the government could not perform even after putting the entire opposition in jail.

Hamza thanked the nation for praying for Nawaz Sharif’s health. He said people should be patient, and Allah’s judgment would come soon. He refused to comment on Chief Justice Asif Saeed Khosa’s recent speech and said institutions should not be blamed.

“There are no employment opportunities and there is inflation every where. Every sector, whether it’s industrial or agricultural, is crying over economic instability in the country,” he added. The opposition leader stated that they never accepted the government and took oath as a gesture of protest.
