LAHORE: An air ambulance from Qatar will arrive at the Allama Iqbal International Airport at 3am today, sources at the Civil Aviation Authority confirmed.

Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, former chief minister Shahbaz Sharif and Doctor Adnan will leave for the airport at 9am. They will travel to London in the air ambulance equipped with a fully functional and staffed Intensive Care Unit (ICU)and Operation Theatre (OT). The ambulance will take Nawaz from the Hajj terminal.

A team of doctors and paramedics will be on board the air ambulance which is prepared for patients who are unable to board a commercial flight. An air ambulance is a helicopter or a small plane fitted with special medical equipment like in a hospital to take care of seriously ill patients. The equipment inside most air ambulances is the same as people find in an intensive care ward in a hospital like mobile beds (stretchers on which patients are transported) and many medical devices which constantly analyse patients’ vital signs and emit an alarm signal if there is a problem. The sources said the former premier will be shifted to a Harley Street clinic in London immediately after landing.
