A senior leader of the Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat was among three people killed in separate incidents in the city on Monday.
Dilshad Ahmed Shaikh, 40, the ASWJ president in the West district, was gunned down near Noorani Hotel in Sector 11½ of Orangi Town in the morning.
Iqbal Market SHO Ijaz Khan said Shaikh, a resident of Gulshan-e-Zia, was taking his children to school in his vehicle when four masked men riding a motorcycle intercepted him and fired gunshots at him
He was rushed to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.
Shaikh had suffered four bullet wounds to his head. The SHO said the attackers had used a 9mm pistol. Later, ASWJ leaders and activists reached the hospital where they staged a protest. Then they headed towards Islam Chowk and staged a sit-in there, demanding the arrest of the killers.
Rickshaw driver killed
A rickshaw driver was shot dead on Kashmir Road by two men riding a motorcycle and wearing the uniform of security guards.
Jamshed Quarters SHO Ikhlaq Ahmed said Loni Masih, 30, a resident of Cantonment area, was driving his rickshaw when he was attacked.
He was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where he succumbed to his injuries. The police officer said the victim had suffered two bullet wounds, one to his head and the other to his chest.
Labourer murdered
A labourer was shot dead outside his house in Shanti Nagar, Ittehad Town. Police said Mohammad Hussain, 40, was attacked in the wee hours of the day. His body was shifted to the Civil Hospital for an autopsy. The police said they had been unable to ascertain the motive behind the murder so far.
