ATC extends remand of policeman held for acid attack

An anti-terrorism court extended on Monday the police remand of a suspended cop for seven more days in an acid attack case.
Police constable Zeeshan was arrested by police for allegedly attacking and injuring his ex-fiancée Raheela, her brother Khan Mohammad and seven-month-old nephew Mohammad Hadi with acid on July 17 within the jurisdiction of the Mobina Town police station.
Police booked Zeeshan and the absconding co-accused for attempt to murder and the sections under anti-terrorism law.
The investigation officer of the case sought extension in the remand of the suspect for further interrogation. The court, granting the request, extended the remand for seven days.
MPA’s pre-arrest bail
An anti-terrorism court granted pre-arrest bail to Muttahida Qaumi Movement MPA Abdul Rauf Siddiqui till August 15 in six cases pertaining to the charges of conspiracy, offence against state institutions and terrorism.
Siddiqui and other MQM leaders and office-bearers have been booked by police for attending a gathering of its Rabita Committee wherein party chief Altaf Hussain had reportedly delivered a speech against the country’s armed forces.
Several citizens had lodged cases against Hussain and other MQM leaders under the charges of conspiracy, offence against state institutions and terrorism.
The complainants submitted in the FIR that they had come to know that the MQM chief had delivered a speech at the Rabita Committee’s meeting against the armed forces and sovereignty of the country which had hurt their sentiments.
‘China-cutting’ suspects
An anti-terrorism court on Monday extended the physical remand for two days of the suspects involved in China-cutting of amenity plots and illegal allotment of government land.
Faisal Masroor and Mujeebullah were arrested by the police for their alleged involvement in China-cutting of amenity land and illegal allotment of government properties.
According to the Investigation Officer, the suspects disclosed names of several persons including Muttahida Quami Movement’s former chief Karachi Tanzeemi Committee Hammad Siddiqui, Shakir alias Langra, former Karachi Metropolitan Corporation Administrator Mohammad Hussain Syed and other officials of the Karachi Development Authority for their involvement in China-cutting.
He produced in court a record of plots sold after China- cutting and also the files of illegally allotted properties and sought permission to arrest another suspect in the case.
The court while granting permission to arrest the remaining co-accused also extended the police remand of the detained suspects for two days.
