KARACHI: The thrilling one-wicket victory over hosts Sri Lanka on Sunday which sealed the two-match series 2-0 against the World No 1 side helped Pakistan leapfrog arch-rivals India and West Indies in ICC T20I rankings.
Pakistan won the first T20 International by 29 runs.
Before the T20 series began, Pakistan were sitting at fifth spot behind third-placed India (118 points) and West Indies (117 points).
The series triumph helped Pakistan gain three points which propelled the side to third spot. Pakistan are now two points behind second-placed Australia and six points behind top-ranked Sri Lanka.
Anderson, Root rise in Test rankings
DUBAI: England fast bowler James Anderson climbed to second place in the ICC Player Rankings for Test Bowlers after helping his side to an eight-wicket victory inside three days against Australia in Edgbaston.
The Lancashire man claimed match figures of seven for 62 to leap four places to second. He is now 80 points behind South Africa’s Dale Steyn, who is currently in action against Bangladesh in Mirpur.
Steven Finn, who took eight wickets for 117, re-entered the rankings in 19th position. Mitchell Johnson dropped a place and is now joint fifth alongside Stuart Broad on 791 points. Australia’s Josh Hazlewood moved up three places to 14th after claiming his 14th wicket of the series to date. Off-spinner Nathan Lyon rose one place to 15th.
In the ICC Player Rankings for Test Batsmen, Joe Root climbed three places to third after scoring 63 and 38 not out.
Root now stands on 882 points, 17 behind South Africa’s AB de Villiers.
Ian Bell climbed six places to 30th after 53 and 65 not out at his home ground.
Moeen Ali climbed two places to a career-high seventh position in the ICC Player Rankings for Test All-rounders. Shakib Al Hasan of Bangladesh remains the number-one ranked all-rounder in an unchanged top five.
