KARACHI: The unexpected exclusion of wicketkeeper batsman Sarfraz Ahmed from the team in the two T20 Internationals has been vehemently criticised by the Karachi City Cricket Association.
KCCA’s joint secretary Jameel Ahmed said on Sunday that KCCA would not tolerate injustice with the star wicketkeeper batsman.
Interestingly, Sarfraz was not included in the team despite being the vice captain.
“He is the vice captain, which means next to the captain and captain in future,” he said. “He has been declared man of the match quite a few times recently. Even then he is being treated like this,” said Jameel.
The KCCA joint secretary said that injustice was being done with Sarfraz since the World Cup. “Coach Waqar Younis was responsible for that. When he was severely criticised by former cricketers, only then did Waqar give opportunity to Sarfraz against South Africa. He played outstandingly, scored 49 runs and also took good catches in the match.
“KCCA knows very well who is behind Sarfraz’s exclusion,” said Jameel and appealed to the PCB high-ups to take notice of the “injustice” with Sarfraz.
He said the PCB chairman Shaharyar Khan should ask the team management why Sarfraz was being ignored.
The KCCA joint secretary warned the selection committee and the team management that they would not be allowed to “waste Sarfraz as he is an asset of the nation”.
He warned that if Sarfraz was again excluded all clubs of the port city would protest on streets.
It is pertinent to mention here that the team management has also been slammed by former captains Wasim Akram, Muhammad Yousuf and Rashid Latif for choosing to keep Sarfraz out.
