Massive overcharging has witnessed in the open and weekly makeshift markets of the city as the district government and all government departments were busy in observing the anti-dengue day.
The government employees were asked to ensure their presence in the activities, i.e. walk and discussion etc. regarding dengue eradication campaign for photo sessions. The vendors got full advantage of the district government absence by overcharging for all fruits and vegetables.
Vendors sold rain-hit substandard vegetables and fruits at higher rates, overcharged Rs5 to 40 per kg on different products. None of the vegetables and fruits was sold at the official rate issued by the market committee through price list.
The price of fresh potato was fixed at Rs25 to 28 per kg, potato sugar-free at Rs14 to 16 per kg; stored potato at Rs8 to 10 per kg, while sugar-free was sold at Rs28 per kg. The price of onion was fixed at Rs30 to 34 per kg, while mixed was sold at Rs34 to 35 per kg. Official price of tomato was Rs50 to 55 per kg, while sold at Rs60 per kg.
The price of garlic local was fixed at Rs105 to 110 per kg, garlic Chinese was fixed at Rs118 to 125 per kg, both was sold at Rs30 per kg. Ginger China was fixed at Rs150 to 165 per kg, Singapore Rs115 to 120 per kg, while both were sold at Rs200 per kg. The price of brinjal was fixed at Rs20 to 25 per kg, sold at Rs30 per kg. Cucumber price was fixed at Rs30 to 35 per kg, sold at Rs60 per kg. Bitter gourd was sold at Rs50 against the fixed rates of Rs35 to 45 per kg. The price of spinach was fixed at Rs10 to 15 per kg, sold at Rs20 per kg.
Zucchini local was fixed at Rs50 to 55 per kg, while rotten and rain-affected was sold at Rs60 per kg. The price of lemon local was fixed at Rs80 to 95 per kg, sold at Rs100 per kg. Pumpkin price was fixed at Rs20 to 25 per kg, sold at Rs30 per kg. The price of lufa was fixed at Rs35 to 40 per kg, sold at Rs50 per kg. The price of cabbage and cauliflower price was fixed at Rs35 to 40, while both were sold at Rs60 per kg.
The price of green chilli was fixed at Rs35 to 45 per kg, sold at Rs60 per kg. Capsicum was sold at Rs100 per kg, against the price of Rs80 to 90 per kg. Arum price was fixed at Rs40 to 45 per kg, sold at Rs50 per kg. Ladyfinger was sold at Rs60 per kg, against the official rates of Rs50 to 55 per kg. The price of different variety of apples was fixed at Rs45 to 100 per kg, while sold at Rs60 to 120 per kg.
The price of plump was fixed at Rs135 to 140 per kg, sold at Rs160 to 180 per kg. The rates of banana A quality was fixed at Rs70 to 75 per dozen, B-quality at Rs50 to 55 per dozen, sold at Rs80 per dozen. Pomegranate local price was fixed at Rs90 to 95 per kg, sold at Rs100 to 120 per kg. Guava rate was fixed at Rs55 to 60 per kg, sold at Rs80 to 100 per kg.
Sweet potato was fixed at Rs30 to 35 per kg, sold at Rs60 per kg. Peer price was fixed at Rs60 to 70 per kg, sold at Rs80 to 100 per kg.
Grapes gola black was fixed at Rs90 to 100, grapes Sunderkhani at Rs180 to 200 per kg. The price of different variety of mangoes was fixed at Rs40 to 115 per kg, sold at Rs80 to 120 per kg. The price of peach special was fixed at Rs125 to 140 per kg, and B-quality at Rs75 to 80 per kg, while mixed was sold at Rs120 to 140 per kg.
