MUZAFFARGARH: Ten dacoits looted half a dozen shops on Jatoi Road here on Saturday.
The dacoits entered the shops and looted Rs 70,000 from shopkeeper Muhammad Tariq, Rs 250,000 from Saleem Shehzad, Rs 15,000 from Muhammad Nawaz, Rs 5,000 from Hameed and Rs 300 from a vendor Shakil Ahmed. They also opened fire in the air to create panic. However, police chased the dacoits and tried to arrest them. At this, the dacoits jumped into the River Chenab. However, the police arrested one dacoit who was later identified as Javed Khalil. During interrogation, Javed Khalil told that the names of his accomplices included Muhammad Imran, son of DPO office superintendent Ali Nawaz, Khalid, Abdul Hameed, Ata Muhammad, Shehzad and Jam Rashid. The police also recovered weapons and looted articles. The DPO also suspended Ali Nawaz, office superintendent of the DPO office.
