Transfer ban

It has been eight years since the ban on the transfer of state land in Sindh was imposed in the wake of the burning of the land records after the assassination of Benazir Bhutto. This has adversely affected people who have been paying instalments for the last 15 years but are still without necessary land possession documents. They have been visiting the revenue office almost daily in the hope of getting some news about lifting of the ban but in vain.
It is surprising that during the 2007 riots, Karachi was the worst-hit city but the ban was imposed on the whole of the province. Why did the rest of the districts in the province have to pay for this ban? This is unjustified. In the absence of the transfer order (TO) letter, people cannot take possession of their land they have been paying for years or apply for a loan. The Sindh CM – especially the Sindh Board of Revenue – should remove the ban.
