A woman, belonging to a Central Asian state, who was arrested in a Saturday night crackdown on anti-social elements on the allegation of running a brothel in a posh sector of the federal capital, escaped from police custody in district courts (F-8 Markaz) when she was being produced before the court of law for her judicial remand here on Monday, police sources said.
The woman, Mathya Kabova, belonging to Azerbaijan, was arrested during the crackdown and police registered a case against her under 14 Foreigners Act.
ASI Sadiq took her to produce her before the court without getting assistance from women’s police, police said. According to police, she staged the drama of heart attack when she was being taken to the court and fell unconscious. ASI Sadiq rushed to bring drinking water from a nearby restaurant, but she taking advantage of ASI’s absence escaped from the scene.
Station House Officer (SHO) Khalid Awan, when contacted by this correspondent, said that he had directed the ASI to call female cops and extra force to avoid any untoward incident but he didn’t follow his orders and took her alone to the court.
The authorities have suspended ASI Sadiq for his negligence and initiated a departmental inquiry against him to ascertain whether he provided her chance to flee or she dodged him, top police officers said. They added that circumstantial evidence indicated ASI’s bad intention as he didn’t get assistance of policewomen and provided her chance to escape.
The authorities also removed the SHO from his post.
