Over 20mm of rain poured down over the provincial metropolis on Tuesday which inundated many roads and residential areas.
The day started with cloudy skies and light rain started around 10:30am. Post 11:30, torrential rain coupled with wind lashed through most parts of the city and lasted for over an hour.
It virtually brought the traffic to a standstill due to poor visibility and slippery driving conditions.
Model Town, Garden Town, Wahdat Colony, Gawalmandi Chowk, Garhi Shahu Chowk, Davis Road, Railway Station, Shadbagh, Misri Shah, Neela Gumbad Chowk, Kashmir Road, Outfall Road, GPO Chowk, Chauburji, Samanabad, Sultanpura, Mughalpura, Shahdara, Gulshan-e-Ravi, Township, Faisal Town, Green Town, Garden Town, Gulberg, Kahna, Mozang, Saadi Park, Anarkali, Walled City, Brandreth Road and Naulakha were among the most affected localities.
Residents of Fateh Garh, Mughalpura, Khokhar Road, Amir Road, Sham Nagar, Ravi Road, Garhi Shahu, Badami Bagh, Shadbagh, Misri Shah, Wasanpura, Goal Bagh and Mughalpura were hit hard by the rain as well.
Al-Hamd Colony was one of the worst-hit localities in the city where water had inundated the whole area, making the life of the people miserable. Almost all small parks situated in various housing societies were filled with rainwater. Meanwhile, more widespread rain is expected in the provincial metropolis today. A Wasa spokesperson, commenting on the situation, said that during day normal water consumption by civilians was high and when storm water was added to the mix, momentary water logging was inevitable.
He said that the department was at work during the time and most areas were rid off the water over a couple of hours.
