History lessons

This refers to the article, ‘Lessons from British history’ (July 5, The News on Sunday) by Ishtiaq Ahmed Gondal and Yaqoob Khan Bangash. The authors have rightly said, “Unfortunately, as an independent nation we are continuously failing our people in almost all spheres of life. It seems our existing system has become outdated and rather than helping the state it is adding more miseries. One such instance is of Saulat Mirza who was once considered an avid sports lover but who changed his path only to become a killer when he was made subject to brutal police torture in the 1990s operation.”
This is an excellent piece that showed how the British managed colonial affairs and their enemies. The article has suggested the importance of history and its lessons in statecraft. Our leadership is fond of words like ‘militancy’ and ‘terrorism’ and not the process and history behind their making. It seems we do not want to uproot evils from society at all or it is that we do not have that hindsight while making policies.
