The Sindh Ombudsman on Thursday ordered the director of the International Centre for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS) of the University of Karachi (KU) to pay the due arrears of a professor whose contract had been terminated earlier.
Prof Dr Mahboob Muhammad was engaged by the Higher Education Commission to assist Chemistry students at the centre, on a contractual basis. His contract was later cancelled on the orders of the institute’s board of directors without any due notice; he, however, continued to guide students working on their respective researches. The ombudsman had given the orders after hearing the complainant’s (Prof) application filed with the federal Ombudsman; it was later forwarded to the provincial Ombudsman.
ICCBS Director Prof Dr Iqbal Chaudhary handed over a cheque of Rs548,387, amount equivalent to six months arrears of honorarium, with the complainant.
