Belgium debacle

It is disappointing to see the sorry state of hockey in our country. The team that once dominated the world of hockey has even failed to qualify for Rio Olympics 2016. Despite the tall claims made by the PHF, we were badly exposed in the recently held qualifying round for the Olympics in Belgium.
Under the stewardship of former PHF president Qasim Zia we failed to qualify for the World Cup and now we have failed to qualify for the Olympics. It seems the PHF’s affairs are being managed by those who have no idea of the game. Shahnaz Sheikh – himself a former Olympian – should resign. It is time the PHF stopped hiring local coaches because they are unaware of modern techniques and have failed to achieve the desired results. In addition, the hockey team should be provided adequate funds. As patron of the hockey board Nawaz Sharif should intervene and rectify the mistakes made by his appointed ministers.
