Professor Dr Adibul Hasan Rizvi, the pioneer of organ transplant surgery in the country, has urged the youth to get involved in voluntary work.
Addressing the participants of the 40th student volunteer programme organised by the Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT), during a certificate distribution ceremony, he said there was an urgency to develop a strong culture of volunteer work in the country.
Prof Rizvi said the programme is important as it is designed to aware students of the sufferings of fellow human beings which would bring a positive change in their life.
During the week long exercise the students are introduced to guidelines related to patient care in particular and medical care in general and these are mainly in the field of radiology, laboratory dialysis, transplantation, lithotripsy besides other medical surgical and allied services, he said.
Prof Rizvi added community service refines people by providing them direction and sense of purpose.
Since the inception of the SIUT`s students volunteer training programme more than 4000 students from different educational institutions from all over Karachi have been imparted needed training in an extremely relevant yet largely ignored field.
The certificate distribution ceremony was attended by a large number of parents, teachers and students.
