While people are fully behind the military establishment there is a lurking fear that the ongoing operation against criminals and anti-state elements may not reach its logical conclusion.
There seems to be some indecisiveness or confusion on the part of our military establishment which is preventing them from taking a swift action against crime/ corrupt dons. It is for this reason that people’s disappointment has turned into disillusionment.

This refers to the article, ‘Pakistan’s Kemalist movement’ (June 30) by Ayaz Amir. The writer’s search for a Kemalist from the army is a waste of time and energy. We have had three before – Ayub Khan, Ziaul Haq and Pervez Musharraf. Now what is left for the fourth to do? The writer’s description of our political system, political class and political leadership as a ‘collection of duds’ is rather insulting. Our military is part of the government and paid out of the taxes collected by the same clique of duds.
Our political system, class and leadership are better than many in the world. The problem is ignorance of the masses about the value of their vote. The day they learn to use their vote for change things will start improving. And they will learn this by experience. Unfortunately, this learning process has been scuttled again and again. A few more elections will take care of many problems. We are better without a Kemalist.
