University Act to pave way for qualified VCs: Ghani

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Information and Higher Education Mushtaq Ahmad Ghani has said that under the newly introduced University Act, the highly qualified, experienced and well-reputed people will be appointed as vice-chancellors (VCs) of the public sector universities in the province.
Speaking at a news conference on Thursday, he said the reforms introduced for colleges and universities by the present government would bring about drastic changes in the higher educational institutions of the province within six months.
“The universities will have highly qualified and experienced academicians as the head and will generate own resources,” he said.The minister said that the Hazara University and Kohat University of Science and Technology would have new vice-chancellors in the near future.
Mushtaq Ghani said the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf-led government would set up a university of technology in the province.He said that online admission system had been introduced in 16 colleges in Peshawar and the students can now apply online and get admission in the respective college on merit.
He added that 16 colleges of Frontier Education Foundation (FEF) would be brought under the Higher Education Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He said academic training has been made mandatory for teachers of educational institutions.
