An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Tuesday extended the physical remands of three Safoora bus massacre suspects, Saad Aziz alias Tin Tin, Tahir Hussain alias Sain and Asadur Rehman till July 13.
The court directed the IO to submit relevant reports with respect to the progress on investigation at the next hearing.
The accused had along with other accomplices had allegedly fired at a bus carrying members of the Ismaili community on May 13, near Safoora Goth; the attack claimed the lives of 47 people on board the bus.
Saad Aziz was also alleged to have killed (along with another accused) The Second Floor (T2f) Director Sabeen Mahmud, ASI Arshad Tanoli and others in separate incidents.
He was also said to have carried out an attack on Jinnah Medical and Dental College’s Vice Principal Debra Lobo who received serious injuries but survived.
Saad Aziz, alias Tin Tin and John was a BBA graduate from the prestigious Institute of Business Administration, Karachi. According to the investigators he was the mastermind of the attack on Sabeen.
Whereas Tahir Hussain Minhas, alias Sain Nazir, Zahid, Naveed, Khalil and Mota was identified as the mastermind of the Safoora attack.
He had passed his matriculation examinations and was said to have been engaged in terrorist activities since 1998; having expertise in bomb-making and use of arms including RPG-7s, Kalashnikovs and pistols.
Asadur Rehman alias Malik was a BCom graduate from the University of Karachi and had met Aziz in 2009 who motivated him to participate in jihadist activities, however, he did not engage in any activities till he met Tahir Minhas in 2014.
Another suspect of the case Muhammad Azhar Ishrat alias Majid, had a degree in electronics engineering from the Sir Syed University and was said to be involved in terrorism since 2011.
The fourth suspect was identified as Hafiz Nasir, alias Yasir, who had an MA degree in Islamic studies from the University of Karachi and was engaged in terrorist activities since 2013.
