Supremacy of law

This refers to the news report, ‘Gilani returns Turkish first lady’s diamond necklace’ (June 27). Merely returning the necklace is not enough. The former prime minister should be tried for stealing state property and a corruption-cum-theft case should be lodged against him by the government. This will give a strong message to the high and mighty and meet the ends of justice.
While petty thieves in this country are arrested and punished, the powerful and influential personalities are let off. Let us see if Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan orders filing a case against his fellow politician or goes soft. The Supreme Court is requested to take suo motu action because the theft has already been acknowledged by Gilani.
