KARACHI: Noman Anwar of Omar Cricket Club scored the first century of the Karachi Gymkhana Omar Associates Ramazan Festival Twenty20 Cricket Tournament as the defending champions blasted Mohammad Hussain Cricket Club by 93 runs in their Group A match here at the Karachi Gymkhana Cricket Ground on Sunday.
Opener Noman, adjudged Man of the Match, whacked eight sixes and five fours in his 49-ball 100 which enabled Omar CC to post an impressive total of 213 for six in 20 overs. Saad Nasim (27 off 16 balls) and Mohammad Waqas (21 off 16 balls) also contributed their bit, while left-arm spinner Sohail Khan picked up three wickets for 51 runs.
Mohammad Hussain CC could not recover after losing early wickets to be bowled out for 120 in 18.1 overs with opener Farrukh Shahzad (43 off 34 balls) being the top-scorer.
Left-arm spinners Adnan Kalim (3-28) and Zafar Gohar (2-23) completed the rout after left-arm seamer Rumman Rais (2-14) had got wickets with the new ball.
Earlier in the day, Brother Cricket Club Dadu came from behind to edge out K-Electric by 10 runs in a low-scoring Group B encounter.
Batting first, Brother CC Dadu recovered to reach 125 after having reached 74 for eight. Imtiaz Leghari struck three sixes and four fours in his unbeaten 49 off 36 balls after left-arm spinner Faraz Ahmed Khan (5-11) had rocked the top order.
Chasing 126 in 20 overs, K-Electric got off to a flying start through openers Israrullah (32 off 37 balls) and Faraz Ali (19 off 22 overs), but succumbed to the left-arm spin duo of Imran Chandio (4-9) and Ali Joyo (3-15) to be all out for 115 in 19.2 overs.
