ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly (NA) Wednesday adopted a motion to authorise Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq to constitute a 21-member parliamentary committee that would review and oversee progress on China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
Finance Minister Senator Ishaq Dar moved the motion in pursuance of the Prime Minister’s Office UO No 1894/M/SPM/15, dated May 6, with reference to consensus reached in All Parties Conference (APC) meeting on May 28, calling upon the Speaker to constitute parliamentary committee for CPEC.
The motion states that the Committee should be constituted in consultation with the chairman Senate and the parliamentary leaders. Elaborating its functions, the motion said the committee would perform function of an oversight on the consensus reached at the All Parties Conference on the CPEC.
It said the committee would monitor implementation of the projects and make recommendations in this regard. The committee will make suggestion for reduction in cost and time of the project as well as provision of better services to the public.
It said the committee would also endeavor to promote consensus and support for CPEC in the federation. The committee will present its periodical report to the NA and also make rules to regulate its procedure.
