Waziristan students protest illegal taxes
PESHAWAR: The members of the Waziristan Students Union have asked the authorities to take notice of the illegal collection of taxes by the district administration.
Speaking at a news conference at the Peshawar Press Club on Tuesday, Rahim Dawar and others said that the district administration was depriving the poor traders of their rights.
He said that after the merger of tribal areas in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the tax on check posts had been abolished but the district administration was misusing its powers.
He alleged the administration was collecting taxes from people on Levies checkposts. “They now call it “number” instead of using the word “Permit,” he added.
They warned the government to launch protest movement if legal action against the district administration was not taken forthwith.
