ISLAMABAD: The MD designate of PSO, despite passage of almost two months, is yet to take charge of the strategically important organization.
Federal Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Shahid Khaqan Abbasi was contacted to know the reason for barring the regular MD from resuming the charge and continuation of the acting MD PSO, he said the regular MD would resume charge after completing his notice period at his current job.
The acting MD PSO Shahid Islam was also contacted to know his point of view that why is he holding the office despite his extension was rejected by the Prime Minister, he said he is out of the country and not in a position to respond.
The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources issued a notification No 2(12)/2014-Gas, dated June 05, 2015 a copy of which is available with The News. It says that the competent authority has approved the extension in joining period of Imranul Haq, Chief Executive Officer/Managing Director PSO till 15th July 2015. The same notification further says that Mr. Shahid Islam, acting MD, is allowed to hold the charge till actualization/assumption by regular incumbent (i.e.15-07-2015) whichever is earlier.
Similarly, the prime minister in a notification No 322/S.PM/15 rejected the summary sent by Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources asking his permission for giving Mr. Shahid Islam acting charge of MD PSO for six months.
The PM Secretariat in the notification said that assigning dual charge of the acting MD PSO for six months would not be advisable, the prime minister has been pleased to approve the assignment of acting charge of the post to Shahid Islam for three months only and during this period the ministry should ensure that the post is filled under the rules. However, the Prime Minister approved Imranul Haq as regular MD PSO on April 30, 2015 but he is yet to resume his charge.
