Technical education for youths stressed

Almost 60 per cent of the country population comprises youths under 30 years of age.
They require employment. If they cannot get jobs, they may work against the interest of our country. We have to motivate them to get technical education to become skilful and useful citizen of society, said P&D Chairman Irfan Elahi while addressing the closing ceremony of Tevta Skills Expo 2015 on Monday. Tevta chairperson Irfan Qaiser, Chief Operating Officer Jawad Ahmed Qureshi, General Manager Abdul Qayyum, Hamid Ghani Anjum, Azhar Iqbal Shad, Akhtar Abbas Bharwana, other officers and students were present.
Irfan Elahi said Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (Tevta) was the leading department in Punjab which would play its role to achieve the target of giving skill training to two million youths during four years.
Without the effective role of private sector, government could not train the youth in employable trades, he said, adding it was the need of the hour to introduce latest courses as per requirement of the national and international market.
The government would fully support Tevta to achieve the mission in a successful way and play its effective role to provide job opportunities to youth, he said.
Tevta Chairperson Irfan Qaiser Shaikh said only 10 percent population of our country was getting technical education while this ratio was 25 percent in India. He added the purpose to organise the skills expo was to motivate public and the youth to get skilled training.
