A splendid show of creative genius by Dr Sumera Jawad and Zarmena Aslam, being showcased at the Ejaz Art Gallery on MM Alam Road, is a brilliant display of artistic skills and a refreshing journey through human inner feelings.
The rose and the female share fragile folds and fantasies which, complimented each other with similes and metaphors of purity, virginity, seduction, secrets, sexuality, fertility and regeneration. Both have given voices to the unfathomable imagination of poets and helped history of mankind to be aromatic, sumptuous and romantic.
These paintings depict the ensemble of the female and the rose as quintessential to each other, both to be admired, appreciated, and revered at the same time having a limited full bloom and life. The paintings display intimate moments in time when love is the ruler; the reverence, the blind faith, the trust and dependency, the loss of direction that might come about when a person encounters the mythical and mysterious patterns of love; as layers of a rose imprison the dewdrops and fragrance without letting them free.
According to Dr Sumera Jawad, it is a subtle reminder of the inexplicable and affectionate nature, associated with the defined and refined ideologies of femininity and the challenge when an artist has to contextualize them on the canvas. Showcasing a lot and revealing very little has been an instinctive and intentional practice for me, leaving it to the imagination of the viewers.
