Model courts: Lawyers to go on countywide strike on 25th

KARACHI: The All Pakistan lawyer representatives’ conference on Saturday announced countrywide boycott of court proceedings on April 25 against ‘unjustified’ decisions of the National Judicial Policy Making Committee (NJPMC) about the sessions court powers and establishments of model courts.

Addressing all Pakistan lawyers representatives’ conference at the Karachi Bar Association, the lawyers’ leaders announced boycott of model court proceedings and warned cancelling the licenses of lawyers appearing in the model courts.

Supreme Court Bar Association President, Amanullah Kanrani said the Constitution was supreme and all decisions should be made strictly in accordance with the Constitution.

President Sindh High Court Bar Association (SCBA) Mohammad Aqil said the ‘unjustified’ decision of the NJPMC about withdrawal of Section 22-A,B of CrPC was not acceptable to them.

Former president of SCBA Justice (R) Rasheed A Razvi said lawyers always struggled for the rule of law and

supremacy of the Constitution.

He said a conspiracy had been hatched against the Supreme Court Judge Justice Qazi Faez Essa and lawyers will have to unite to foil all such conspiracies.

Karachi Bar Association President Naeem Qureshi said model courts was negation of the judicial system and lawyers will not allow any proceedings against the spirit of natural justice.

He said lawyers from all over Pakistan will stage protest demonstrations at the Supreme Court for acceptance of their demands.

Pakistan Bar Council member Hafiz Mohammad Idrees said lawyers will hold protest demonstrations and a sit-in at the Supreme Court until withdrawal of ‘unjustified’ decisions of the NJPMC.

Representatives of the Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Balochistan bar councils also demanded immediate withdrawal of the NJMPC decisions about sessions court powers under Section 22-A,B of CrPC and establishment of model courts.
