KARACHI: There would be three synthetic tracks across the province, including one in Karachi, by the end of the year, sources revealed to ‘The News’ on Saturday.

There was a longstanding demand by the athletic community and other sportspeople that a tartan track be laid in Karachi. The PSB’s coaching centre track completed its life almost a decade ago.

The Sindh government officials said Karachi would also get a track as soon as possible. They did not say where and when the third tartan track would be installed, but confirmed that Sindh chief minister and provincial sports minister have given special directives for this project.

It is pertinent to mention here that the engineering wing of provincial sports department is busy completing various sports projects in the province. It has laid a tartan track in Hyderabad and one is being laid in Mirpurkhas. The latter is likely to be completed this year.

The sources in the Sindh government confirmed that that the provincial sports department is trying to inaugurate the newly-laid tartan track in Hyderabad as soon as possible.

Informed sources said that Hyderabad’s tartan track is ready for organising sports event and during the summer vacations athletic events would be organised there.

The sources said that it was expected that by the end of this month or early in May, Sindh government would inaugurate the Hyderabad tartan track.

In Mirpurkhas, a football ground is being prepared. When it is completed, a track around it would be laid. The sources said that national and international events could be conducted at the Mirpurkhas synthetic athletic track. Seating arrangements for the spectators, pavilion, and changing rooms would be part of this project.
