A shoe-manufacturing factory in New Karachi Industrial Area was gutted in a fire on Thursday. The factory is located in Sector 12/C within the limits of the New Karachi Industrial Area police station.
Reacting to information, initially one fire tender was dispatched to the property; however, keeping the intensity of the fire in view, more fire tenders later joined in efforts to extinguish the blaze.
According to a fire brigade spokesperson, a watchman was present in the factory when the fire broke out. Scores of people gathered outside the factory, and some of them managed to rescue the watchman.
The firefighters took two hours to put out the flames and protect the adjacent factories. The spokesperson said the actual cause was yet to be ascertained, but, apparently, the fire broke out due to a short circuit. No loss of life was reported.
The owner also reached the factory after getting information about the fire. He called in water tankers to help the firefighters with their hectic battle. According to the owner, the fire caused huge losses.
