ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Senator Sherry Rehman on Wednesday criticised Prime Minister Imran Khan's statement on him seeing a better chance of peace talks with India if Narendra Modi’s Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) wins the general election.

Sherry Rehman took to Twitter and said, "It is unseemly for a sitting PM to state a preference for dialogue with a candidate from another country in the middle of their election."

"Pakistan does business with states not individuals. To say Modi will give us a better chance to talk is closing the door for others in India," she added.

The PPP Information Secretary Dr Nafeesa Shah said there was a conflict and confusion in the narratives of Prime Minister Imran Khan and Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi.“It seems that the prime minister has become chief polling agent of Narendra Modi in the election and why he was so keen to meet Indian prime minister,” she said.

She said there was no hope of peace from Modi, who was involved in butchering Muslims of Gujarat.

“Whether Imran Khan has got a contract for ensuring a win for Modi in the Indians election,” she questioned.
