Seven months after the formation of the PTI government, it has not been able to set the economic direction. The economy is being run on experiments instead of being run rationally. In other words the government has failed to bring much-needed revenue and provide direct relief to the people. The recent hike in the prices of gas, petrol and electricity has virtually broken people’s back. Hike in the prices of daily-use commodities and constant jumps in the dollar are not a good sign.
Whether to go to the IMF or not is another dilemma which the current government faces. All this indicates that Finance Minister Asad Umar does not understand the dynamics of the economy. If the PTI government persists in its failures, it will face the wrath of the voters in the next elections.
