There is increasing demand for improvements in the administration of affordable, timely and equitable justice in the country. Complex procedures, case backlogs and a lack of effective case management put pressure on the capacity of the justice system and create insurmountable challenges for citizens in accessing justice. The chief justice of Pakistan seems to have committed himself to improving the effectiveness and efficiency of the judiciary. If the “Expeditious Justice Initiative” is translated into reality, justice in Pakistan will no longer remain inaccessible for the vast majority.
Strengthening the justice system should be a priority for also our federal and provincial governments which are under an obligation to do the necessary legislation to update the laws and rules of business. Court procedures may be simplified and designed to provide speedy and inexpensive justice to justice-seekers.
