Alleged robbers arrested
The police arrested an alleged robber who was planning a major robbery in the busy currency market at Chowk Yadgar on Sunday.
Deputy Superintendent of Police City Atiq Shah told reporters that robbers opened fire on police but that was retaliated. He added that the ringleader Tariq had been arrested while raids were being conducted to arrest his accomplices who escaped amid firing.
Meanwhile, the Paharipura Police Station worked out a robbery case in which Rs12 million were looted from a trader from Mardan after he took the cash from the currency market in Chowk Yadgar.
ASP Faqirabad Mohammad Shoaib said the accused Naeem was arrested and the looted cash was recovered from him.
A number of gangs of robbers are operating in the city who target traders and other people after they collect cash from the currency market in Chowk Yadgar.
Despite several actions taken by the police, many groups are still active after which traders carry weapons or accompany gunman while taking cash from the market.
