MANSEHRA: The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) has claimed to win simple majority to form government with the support of independents in the district.
“We are going to install our party government in the district as we have secured 33 out of 58 seats while result of one ward is yet to be declared,” Shafaat Ali, a former PTI district president told reporters on Tuesday.
The election commission announced result of 58 out of 59 wards. Independents secured 23 seats followed by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) with 20 seats. The PTI won 12 seats, JUI-F got two and Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) one. Shafaat Ali, son of former JI district president Shaukat Ali Khan, is going to run against Shehryar Khan, a nephew of former provincial president of PTI Azam Khan Swati, for office of district chairman.
He said that his party had 15 seats after three independents joined PTI while two independent groups having eight and 10 councillors would support his party. Shafaat Ali said that his party was also in contact with JUI-F and JI for getting their support in formation of district government.
Meanwhile, PML-N district president M Zafar claimed that his party was in a position to form not only the district government but also in Balakot and Mansehra tehsils. However, he said, complete information would be released to media on Wednesday (today). Dr Tariq Sherazi, JI district president, said independents would play an important role in formation of district government.
