Role of emergency medicine highlighted
LAHORE: The Accident and Emergency Department of Mayo Hospital organized first International Emergency Medicine Conference under the patronage of King Edward Medical University, Lahore.
According to a press release, emergency medicine has been established as independent specialty a couple of decades ago. Consultants working in the department provide life-saving treatment and resuscitation to critically sick patients during the Golden Hour. KEMU is the first public sector medical university to launch the emergency medicine programme in Pakistan. Senior consultants have been recruited for the purpose, who are providing 24/7 healthcare service in the Accident and Emergency Department, Mayo Hospital, Lahore.
The consultants supervise treatment of over 3,000 patients a day. In view of special training requirements for the specialty, KEMU Vice Chancellor Prof. Khalid Masud Gondal patronized the international emergency medicine conference and workshop. It was attended by international experts from the US, the UK, South Africa and Gulf countries, who shared their knowledge and experience with the junior doctors and paramedics.
The chief guest and Punjab Minister for Health Prof. Dr. Yasmin Rashid congratulated the staff of KEMU for organizing the conference and appreciated the efforts of Prof. Dr. Yar Muhammad (Chairman Department of Accident & Emergency). She added the government of Punjab was committed to providing free medicine and healthcare to needy patients. She also urged the junior doctors to improve their communication skills, not only with patients but also with their attendants. She added that the conference would help Pakistani doctors to learn from the international faculty.
Prof. Dr. Khalid Masud Gondal said the conference shall not only help the doctors to improve patients care but will also provide trained human resource for national and international healthcare institutions.
The conference was attended by Dr. Narges Daliri, Dr. Taimur Butt, Dr. Juniad Asghar, Dr. Farooq Zurba, Dr. Talat Al Kindy, Dr. Sami Al Kindy Ex Principal KEMC Prof. Khwaja Saadiq Husain, Prof. Mehmood Ali Malik, Ex Professor of Pathology Prof. Akhter Sohail Chughtai, Prof. Asghar Naqi, Prof. Irshad Hussain Qureshi, Prof. Abrar Ashraf Ali, Prof. Yar Muhammad and Prof. Sajid Abaidullah. Deans, HODs and a large number of undergraduate and postgraduate doctors were also present.
teachers’ promotion cases: The School Education Department (SED) Punjab has directed CEOs of all the District Education Authorities (DEAs) for early disposal of promotion cases. In a letter to the CEOs on Monday, the department while expressing concern observed that a large number of promotion cases were pending in each district. The CEOs have been directed to take necessary action for disposal of pending promotion cases on a regular basis.
