Sahiwal face Multan in Punjab Games soccer opener
LAHORE: The draws of 72nd Punjab Games 2019 were held under the supervision of Director General Sports Punjab Nadeem Sarwar at National Hockey Stadium on Friday.
Secretary General Punjab Olympic Association (PbOA) Idris Haider Khawaja, Director Admin Javed Chohan, Director Sports Hafeez Bhatti were also present during the draws ceremony. The draws ceremony was conducted in the presence of all the divisional sports officers and secretaries of all sports associations. According to some initial draws, Sahiwal will face Multan in opening football clash at Model Town ground on April 3, 2019. In the Men’s hockey opener, Gujranwala will lock horns with Rawalpindi. Gujranwala will kick off men’s volleyball event against Bahawalpur, Sargodha will face Rawalpindi in kabaddi opener while Faisalabad and DG Khan will appear in the opening clash of Punjab Games men’s squash event. While talking to the media DG Sports Punjab Nadeem Sarwar said: “I personally conducted the entire proceedings only to ensure transparency in the draws process”. He said the Punjab Games are being organised after 8 years. “This grand event will definitely prove to be a turning point in the sporting history of the province and beginning of bright sports era,” he added.
