PESHAWAR: The Peshawar Qaumi Jirga on Friday announced to launch a protest campaign against the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf-led Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government today (Saturday) for its failure to complete the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project in the stipulated time. “The future line of action for a protest against the government will be announced at a press conference in the presence of opposition parties’ leaders and workers, representatives of civil society and trade unions at Speen Jumaat, University Town area, on the BRT route,” said Pakistan Muslim League-N leader Arbab Khizer Hayat, who is a spokesperson for the Jirga. He added that the residents of the provincial capital and political workers were united against the ‘failed policies’ of the incumbent provincial government. “It’s time to come out and get united for our due rights,” Arbab said. Earlier, the Executive Council of the Peshawar Qaumi Jirga approved the names of its office-bearers. Former MPA Alamgir Khalil was made patron-in-chief, Khalid Ayub chairman, former provincial minister Amanullah Haqqani president, former provincial minister Kashif Azam general secretary and Arbab Khizer Hayat as the spokesperson. The jirga pledged to protest against the alleged corruption, and failure of the PTI-led provincial government to operationalise the BRT by the promised date of March 23.
