Aleem Khan moves LHC for bail
LAHORE: Former Punjab senior minister Abdul Aleem Khan has approached the Lahore High Court (LHC) for bail in a reference pertaining to charges of having assets beyond known sources of income.
In the petition filed through Barrister Ali Zafar, Aleem Khan claimed that the case against him was fabricated, false and frivolous and there was no evidence available with the NAB to arrest him.
According to the petition, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had arrested Aleem Khan over the charges of his offshore companies and assets beyond known sources of income. The petitioner said that he had declared his all assets and the companies in his income statements.
He called all National Accountability Bureau charges including the misuse of authority baseless.
The NAB has failed to prove any allegations against him, Aleem Khan said in the petition and pleaded to the court to order his release on bail.
He says there is no complaint, allegation or evidence against him of any misuse of authority to earn ill-gotten money or gain benefits or misappropriation of government funds. He says he, in his capacity as public office holder, has neither committed any wrongdoing relatable to his public office nor is there any complaint that he paid money from the public exchequer or awarded any contract or transferred government land or raised any funds while holding public office. A two-member bench headed by Justice Malik Shahzad Ahmed Khan will hear the bail petition today (Wednesday).
