Wushu medallists honoured

LAHORE: Pakistan’s wushu team that won 11 medals in 3rd International Pars Wushu Cup in Zahedan, Iran, visited National Hockey Stadium and had a meeting with DG Sports Punjab Nadeem Sarwar on Friday.

As many as seven countries Pakistan, I.A. Iran, India, Iran (B), Afghanistan, Palestine and Iraq participated in 3rd International Pars Wushu Cup.Pakistan’s Amanat Ali clinched three medals including one gold in changquan, silver in gunshu and bronze in daoshu categories. Dawood Shahid and Sundas bagged silver medals in chianshu and -65kg categories respectively. Samreen Altaf won three bronze medals in thaci, thachi chain and daoshu categories. Jannat Shahzad also grabbed a pair of bronze medals in nangun and chayanshu categories while Maira Karamat also managed to win a bronze in -60kg weight class event.

Pakistan Wushu Federation (PWF) President Malik Iftikhar and Divisional Sports Officer Nadeem Qaiser were also present on this occasion. DG Sports Punjab Nadeem Sarwar awarded medals and certificates to male and female wushu players on this occasion.

DG Sports Punjab Nadeem Sarwar said Pakistan’s male and female wushu players made the entire nation proud by winning 11 medals in 3rd International Pars Wushu Cup at Iranian city of Zahedan.

“We will invite foreign coaches for the training of local wushu players. Wushu is an emerging game in our country and it is quite popular among the young generation”. DG Sports Punjab Nadeem Sarwar, on this occasion said the players who won medals in international sports competitions are the real heroes of the country.
