Islamabad : A two-day ‘International Conference on Sustainable Energy in Pakistan’ held at the main campus of National University of Science & Technology (NUST) here.
The conference has been jointly organised by NUST and the University of Engineering & Technology (UET), Peshawar. Participants included Federal Minister for Power Division, Omar Ayub Khan; the Mission Director USAID, Jerry Bisson; officials from the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan; NUST senior management and faculty, renowned national and international energy sector experts; and energy engineering students.
The conference was aimed at promoting research and development in the energy sector by bringing together both international and national researchers, industrial experts, senior policymakers and civil society members to a common platform. The energy professionals reviewed latest developments, opportunities and challenges in renewable and non-renewable energy technologies and discussed future trends.
The conference also highlighted key barriers, challenges and possible solutions for the promotion of market-based adoption of renewable energy technologies in Pakistan.
While addressing the occasion, the Federal Minister said that he viewed the conference as a valuable platform for Pakistan’s now-flourishing energy sector and Specialised Research Centers, like USPCAS-E, which sure are playing an instrumental part in providing sustainable and renewable energy solutions.
