By Obaid Abrar Khan
ISLAMABAD: Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif will face another Joint Investigation Team (JIT) in Kot Lakhpat Jail, as the accountability court, Islamabad, on Thursday granted JIT on Model Town incident permission to interrogate him.
Deputy Superintendent of Punjab Police Muhammad Iqbal on Thursday moved an application before accountability court judge Arshad Malik seeking his permission to interrogate under prison former PM Nawaz Sharif in Kot Lakhpat Jail, regarding the Model Town incident.
Former PM Nawaz Sharif is currently serving his seven-year sentence in the Al-Azizia reference in Kot Lakhpat Jail. During the hearing, DSP Muhammad Iqbal requested the court to allow the JIT to interrogate former PM Nawaz Sharif, as he has also been nominated as accused in Model Town incident in 2014. To this, NAB Bureau Prosecutor Mirza Usman opposed the JIT's application and said instead of approaching accountability court, investigation officer should approach the Islamabad High Court (IHC) to seek such permission. Accountability Court Judge Arshad Malik allowed DSP Muhammad Iqbal to interrogate former PM Nawaz Sharif in the Kot Lakhpat Jail.
According to the schedule, candidates filed their nomination papers from March 16 to 18
