Surgery facility at LGH for obesity control

LAHORE: Latest surgery facilities are available for reduction of fatness at Lahore General Hospital (LGH) and for providing skills in this regard a lab bariatric surgery workshop was held here on Wednesday in which doctors from USA Prof Mohammad Farooq and Dr Tahir Younas gave live presentation and surgery and demonstrated before the audience the details.

Professor of PGMI Dr Farooq Afzal said in the last two years more than 30 operations have been undertaken at Lahore General Hospital and this workshop would further elaborate the surgery skills of the young doctors.

Addressing the workshop, Principal Post Graduate Medical Institute Prof Mohammad Tayyab said that the participation of the doctors from abroad in this workshop is a good omen which would provide an opportunity to the young doctors to get benefit of the latest work in reducing fatness. He called upon that this is the best time to put modern surgical methods to get rid of fatness.

Prof Tayyab said fatness was also cause of other diseases which occur in the shape of sugar, blood pressure and pain of joints. He pointed that if the ratio continues then by 2025 there would 2.7 billion people would caught of fatness around the globe. He said for living a normal live ‘we should make exercise a permanent feature of daily routine and avoid fast foods and cold drinks.’ Prof Tayyab said that fatness is more dangerous for women as they have more hazards in this regard.

Prof Afsar Ali Bhatti, Dr Amna Javed, Dr Shabeer Ahmed, Dr Mohammad Imran Khokhar, Dr Tauseef Fatima, Dr Karim Ullah, Dr Saeed Ahmed, Dr Awais Amjad and Dr Anwar Zaid participated in the workshop along with surgical team and played pivotal role in the success of this workshop. Experts of Surgery for fatness Prof Abu al Fazal, Prof Rana Farooq, Dr. Moaaz, Dr Amjad Saeed, Dr Mian Umer and Dr Shahzad Alam were also included in the presenters of this workshop. They called upon that patients of fatness can reduce their weight rapidly through latest surgery techniques and today’s workshop will play an important role in this regard.

PMDC: First meeting of newly-constituted body of Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PM&DC) under the Ordinance 2019 was held here on Wednesday on the directions of Ministry of Health NHSR&C.

Sixteen members out of 17 were present. The meeting was held in PM&DC Secretariat Islamabad for the purpose of election of the president and vice-president. The new council received warm welcome from PM&DC.

The council unanimously authorised the acting registrar PM&DC to conduct the election as chairman election committee. Prof Dr Tariq Iqbal Bhutta is elected as president and Prof Dr Amer Zaman Khan as vice-president of the council. All the members expressed their faith and confidence in the newly-elected president and vice president.

Speaking on the occasion, elected president, PM&DC, Prof Dr Tariq Iqbal Bhutta said he will put all his efforts to make PM&DC one of the world's best medical regulatory authorities among the international regulatory authorities.

Prof Dr Amer Zaman Khan said that new council will try its best to maintain good reputation as a regulator transparent and professional approach towards medical dental education.
