KARACHI: US Consul General JoAnne Wagnor on Wednesday assured to do everything in her power to pave the way for getting Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) a direct access to US mainland.

A statement said Wagnor, who visited the PIA office along with senior US diplomats, met with Arshad Malik, the chief executive officer of the national flag carrier, and discussed matters of mutual interest at length.

During the meeting Malik requested the US diplomatic team for facilitating PIA for having direct flights to US cities including New York, Chicago and Houston etc.

The PIA chief told the consul general that flying to US via any en-route transit was nonviable.

Moving on, Wagnor said, “We are optimistic about relations to grow in future between both countries”.

She said that US was very keen to improve and strengthen the ties between both countries especially the business and trade relations.
